Practice Newsletter
If you need to cancel an appointment, please give us at least 24 hours notice. You can contact us by e-mail (info@dentalcarenailsea.co.uk) or leave a Message on our 24 hour answerphone. A charge will be made where less than 24 hours notice is given.
There is a new link on our website to the NHS smoking cessation advice website . There is lots of useful advice and information on this website if you are trying to stop smoking. NO SMOKING DAY is on 14th March 2012 organised by the British Heart Foundation. Go to TakeTheLeap.co.uk for further information and support and leap towards a healthier you.
We hope you will enjoy looking at the new artwork displayed at the practice. It was painted by our hygienist, Gail Clarke. Gail will be leaving the practice at the end of April as she is cutting down her hours. She will be greatly missed and has been a very popular member of our team. Emma has opened extra friday morning sessions to enable us to book appointments for patients needing a scale and polish as quickly as possible
Our hygienists are still booked up many weeks in advance, so it’s a good idea to book your next 3 or 6 monthly hygienist appointment now to be sure of being seen at the correct time intervals as recommended by your dentist. However, we now have a hygienist working every day of the week.

All of our staff have now attended the Child Protection course arranged by North Somerset PCT. It was certainly worthwhile and we have learnt a lot.  In October also we all updated our medical emergency training skills – a big thank you to Clive from First Response for another interesting course. Some of our team members attended a very interesting course on Equality and Diversity hosted by North Somerset PCT in February. Thank you to Mr Houston for organising this. Our practice takes staff training very seriously and all staff keep their skills up-to-date.   |
We carried out a patient survey in August 2011. 100 patients returned a questionnaire commenting on the service they had received at our practice. They were asked to rate us on 25 questions regarding all aspects of our practice and personnel. 10% rated us excellent on all 25 counts, 32% rated us above average or excellent on all 25 counts. 10% of the patients surveyed rated us below average on 1 or 2 of the 25 questions. Suggestions they made included more books for children, somewhere to secure a bike outside, more hygienist appointments, unclear estimates and a rear entrance to the premises.
We shall be discussing all these comments at our staff meetings and will implement changes wehere possible.  Thank you to all those patients who took part in our survey.
We request that our patients park in the town centre car parks and not in the adjoining roads and cul-de sacs. We are on the part of Station Rd that leads to the Scotch Horn Centre and Tesco’s. Our property backs onto the free car park which has an entrance opposite the rear of the Iceland store. We have a large sign in front of our premises clearly marked Dentalcare@Nailsea. Please do not obstruct the drives of our neighbouring properties if dropping someone off at the surgery.
Our premises has level access and disabled facilities which will greatly improve the service we offer to our patients. Mr Rautenbach’s and Mr Robert’s surgeries are on the ground floor. Mr Collard has regular sessions downstairs for those of his patients with impaired mobility.
There is a link on our “links” page of this website to multimap where you can type in the postcode to find the location of our practice.
Improving your oral health is important to all-round good health.  However, according to the Bristish Dental Health Foundation, people who resolve to adopt a good oral health routine in 2012 will benefit from more than just improved oral health.  Adopting good oral health can contribute to avoiding potentially serious health conditions such as diabetes, strokes and heart disease.
If you have children, it is never too early to begin promoting good dental health. A child’s first teeth are important for speech, eating and facial appearance, and establish space in the mouth for adult teeth to develop normally.
Your smile is also very important. Having the confidence to smile shapes our image and is hugely important to relationships.
If you do resolve to improve your oral health in 2012 brush for 2 minutes twice a day using a flouride toothpaste first thing in the morning and last thing at night, cutting down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks, and visiting your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend. Additionally, cleaning in between your teeth using interdental brushes or floss will help to form a great routine.
